Ok , In Birmingham we have two major outlets for drag here(The Quest and The Phoenix).. also having 3 or so other outlets that are not as main stream (The 22nd St. Jazz Cafe, 729, and Club21) In this City we have new talent coming out of the wood work! .........Do you feel like Birmingham needs more outlets for drag? or maybe that Birmingham outlets are political as far as casting? .. maybe Birmingham doesnt have enough talent or drive to have more good show bars ?Or just that there isnt enough opportunities for new talent to become a " NAME" in the Drag and Gay world?

OH LORD GIRL! Well let's see, yea the Quest and the Phoenix are both the largest drag show bars cast wise, but I would not say any of the others are not mainstream. They all offer the same it is just geared a little differently.
The Jazz Cafe is just starting, and doing good from what I hear. They have gone from a once a month show to a once a week if I'm not mistaken. Gotta start somewhere, and Sin is doing a good job with that. DUH like you didn't know that!
Club 21 also has a great deal of drag from what I hear; pageants, talent, and shows, but it is just more geared for the black community that seem to get held back at some of the other bars.
729 I would say is pretty equal to the Quest as far as performance nights also, just again, geared more toward the lesbians. They are trying to become more universal for when the new bar opens, and trust me when it does, they will be a MAJOR contender. Rachel has some BIG things in the works. Wednesdays have become a greatly diversified show night there with Cooper and Piper now. So much so that one of the other major bars is trying to talk performers out of thier bookings there because their Wednesdays are now suffering. Still though, they have always had several spots for drag performers on the weekends also.
I think the town does have enough new talent to support either a new bar or casting positions. I can think of about 4 girls who are not on cast anywhere that would be VERY deserving of a cast postion somewhere, and could easily make a "NAME" in the drag world.
Are they political as far as casting? Oh HELL yeah! But then again what in the drag world is not political. You either choose to play the game and get bookings thrown at you, or you don't play it and have to work twice as hard to prove yourself and get your name out there. No matter what road you take though, if you have the drive to do it, you can make anything happen. Piper is a perfect example. She can't perform at either of the major outlets you mentioned, and her calendar is more filled than some national title holders' that I have seen.
Anyways I'll just finish up by saying that Birmingham has a LOT of good talent in the works, and it is also a city that really seems to get behind it, so everyone who can needs to take advantage of that! Not all big cities are as accepting as this one, and not all big cities have the good queens that have been around a while and are willing to help newcomers like this one, so count your blessings, and use it for a good starting point!

I originally thought that were SEVERAL places in Birmingham for Drag. Most of the newest up and comming talent is from there, and I know a lot of Tennesse's up and comming go down there for a wider "acceptance". I'm sure you know that here in Nashville we have 5, yes FIVE, major drag bars. We did have six until Connection Nashville closed, and all but two of our clubs have stoped their amateur or talent nights, because there is no new talent in Nashville. People here are very judgemental on their Drag Queens. You have to meet a certain criteria depending on the club you perform at. Blu is ghetto, the Chute is for traditional Drag, Cabaret episode 2 where I work is for the mixed crowd (more on that later), PLAY is for dance drag, DeVil's is for T-Val Drag (if you don't know what a T-Val is . . . you don't want to) and Really, we do have six outlets, the Jungle recently started shows again, but it is known as a hustler bar. Blu and the Chute are the only two bars that hold talent nights. It's very hard to start out here without both queens and crowd talking about you. Fortunately, I learned to stop taking the bad comments about my ugly padded as* a long time ago. I've learned that in this town, the more friends you have, the more you will be respected, no matter how you perform. That's another topic however, I'll have to fill you in on the Shadyness of this town later. See you in September!!

P.S. - To prevent confusion, when I said I work at the Cabaret, I don't mean I perform there, I run the lights for the show, and really it has helped me a lot in developing myself in drag. For two years I have studied how to paint face, and how to perform to an audiences expectations. I do direct our Turnabout show, and all our regular performers would like the owners to give me a chance on a real weekend, so it's good to have friends like that. I am also the owner and Pageant Director for Miss Xtreme Diva in September, and I do hope to see both you and Obsinity there.

Convert HD video to Apple TV
I redid my family room this year and recently made a plan for a home theater, and ended up going with the Apple TV. It's amazing to watch HD movies on my wide-screen TV through Apple TV. Now I wanna convert my library of HD videos recorded by my Sony DVR to Apple TV, these videos are MTS files. After googling "convert HD video to Apple TV", I find that a few video converters have added the support of HD videos. Finally I take Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate as a trial due to its concise interface, reasonable price and high HD video support.
This video converter presets a lot of HD video converting solutions for Apple TV, PS3 and Xbox 360. For example, it offers six profiles at different resolutions for Apple TV: MPEG-4 480P with bit rate of 1500 kbps, MPEG-4 480P with bit rate of 800 kbps, MPEG-4 480P with bit rate of 1200 kbps, H264 480P with bit rate of 2000 kbps, H264 720P with bit rate of 2500 kbps, H264 320*240 with bit rate of 1200 kbps.
According to Apple TV's tech specs, Apple TV supports H.264 and MPEG-4 videos with different limits based on the encoder used. H.264 file can be up to 5 Mbps using the Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, and 960 by 540 pixels at 30 fps). While MPEG-4 file can be up to 3 Mbps using the Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution: 720 by 432 pixels at 30 fps).
Obviously, H.264 file has higher flexibility in the way of data rate and generally looks better than MPEG-4 file. To reach the best effect, here I select the "Apple TV h264 720P (1280*720) (*.mp4)" profile as the target.
Now to its settings. This profile sets the video codec as h264, resolution as 1280*720 pixels (720P), bit rate as 2500 kbps, and frame rate as 23.97 fps. Anyway, the settings are all optimized, so actually you don't need to adjust the output settings.
Of course if you're not satisfied with the results, you can tweak the bit rate, or set the Quality to Higher or Highest. As to High-Definition source content - from an HD camcorder or TV capture box, you may want to turn to the Expert Settings for more control. Just remember that Apple TV HD files can only be 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, or 960 by 540 pixels at 30fps, so if you use other video converter to convert HD video, you may need to adjust resolution and frame rate to get a playable file.
I also make some simple cutting and editing to my videos, and embed self-made subtitle files to some videos. It's really fun. These functions are indispensable to those who may want to scissor out some unwanted clips and create his/her own movie.
Finally I make a list of the supported popular HD video formats here for your reference: AVCHD Video (*.mts, *.m2ts), H.264/MPEG-4 AVC (*.mp4), MPEG2 HD Video (*.mpg; *.mpeg), MPEG-4 TS HD Video (*.ts), MPEG-2 TS HD Video (*.ts), Quick Time HD Video (*.mov), WMV HD Video (*.xwmv), Audio-Video Interleaved HD Video (*.avi), etc. Certainly, you'd better try it yourself to check whether it's for you or not.
